My Classroom

I have finally gotten around to taking a few pictures of my classroom that I feel describes me as a teacher and gives you an insight to my personality and style!

For the past few years, I have used the popular clip chart system for behavior but in the shape of a caterpillar! Everyday, students begin their day on green and strive to work their way up to blue or purple! This year I had to add a 'GOLDEN" star for students working above and beyond! The stamp they receive in their folder at the end of the day matches what color their clip is on. If they reach golden, I put gold glitter on their behavior calendar. Who knew a little gold glitter could be so powerful!! I also have the 5 Whole Brain Teaching Rules posted with pictures that my Kinders can understand.

I have a portion of my bulletin board set aside for our daily schedule and student jobs. It is very important to my students to know what they can expect out of the day and which job they get to do! There have been years in the past in which I did not have a visual schedule and it makes a world of difference! We discuss the schedule every morning so they understand what to expect. It cuts down a lot on hearing the inevitable, "What are we doing today?" "What's next!?"

A very important part of my classroom to both my students and I are my puppets and stuffed animals! These animals not only have names but personalities and different voices or accents too! These puppets are used as rewards for quiet tables, students can read with them, or maybe hold them if they are needing some extra love that day.

I have fallen in LOVE with these reading strategies I found several years ago. There are several versions of these critters floating around. Nonetheless, I love introducing one reading 'friend' at a time and watch their reading ability continue to grow over the kindergarten year. The kids truly connect with each of the characters and know when to apply them!

This is only a very small part of my classroom and who I am as a teacher, but it is a start! Continue to read my blog posts to learn more about me! Thanks for visiting!
